Long Island Montessori School

Long Island Montessori School provides a safe and loving environment for young children ages 2 1/2 to 6 that adheres to the principles and standards of the Montessori philosophy.

Maria Montessori, M.D., (1870-1952) was a leader in the field of early childhood education. Dr. Montessori, was an engineer, an educator, and Italy’s first woman physician who developed a philosophy based on her belief that children learn best by touching, seeing, smelling, tasting, and exploring than by just listening. She created educational materials and methods that help each child reach their full potential in all areas of life.

Dr. Montessori discovered that children have an inherent drive for independence and she observed that children have exceptional powers of concentration. Most importantly, Maria Montessori noted that the very young child unconsciously absorbs his environment.

Maria Montessori believed learning should take place in a multi-age classroom which encourages a sense of community and supports social development where children at various stage of growth learn from and with each other.

Long Island Montessori School is based on the whole child approach. Your children spend each work period moving freely from one activity to another, guided by a Montessori-trained teacher and their own curiosity. They are taught how to work and play harmoniously with others, developing social skills, in a relaxed environment. Each step in this academic process reinforces a positive attitude, self-motivation, a growing self-confidence, and a life long love of learning.

At Long Island Montessori School your child learns at his/her own pace, naturally and spontaneously, and they learn how to care for themselves and their environment. Excellent work habits, a sense of order and respect for the equipment are happy results that give them confidence long after their Montessori years.

Long Island Montessori School offers a first grade and a full day kindergarten program, allowing those children who are eligible to continue their quest for knowledge in a small group environment. The school year is September through June, Monday to Friday. First grade and kindergarten programs are 8:30 am to 2:30 pm; nursery and pre/k programs are 9:00 am to 12 noon. Extended hours are 8 to 9 am and 12 noon to 6:00 pm.

"I invite you to visit the school and enjoy observing children exploring, developing, and learning using Montessori materials designed for this purpose."

Theresa Cacchioli — Director.
